FIDE has introduced a new version of the Laws of Chess which will come into effect on 1st July 2009.

FIDE have also taken the opportunity to make changes to title regulations for both players and arbiters.  These are also given in this section.
 
 
The only acceptable time controls for a tournament at which titles can be won must be one of the following:
 

          90 minutes with 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from first move (This will apply only until 30th July 2010 only)

          90 minutes for 40 moves + 30 minutes with 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from the first move

          100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 10 minutes for the remaining moves with 30 seconds cumulative increment for each move starting from first move           

          40 moves in 2 hours followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game

          40 moves in 2 hours followed by 60 minutes for the rest of the game

          40 moves in 2 hours followed by 20 moves in 1 hour followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game
